Risperdal Lawsuit Loans
Uplift Lawsuit Funding provides no risk Risperdal lawsuit loans – only pay us back if you win your case. We are on the plaintiff’s side – if you’ve spoken to other funders, you’ll immediately notice the Uplift Difference.
As with many other pharmaceutical drugs cases, we can provide under 24 hour approval for Risperdal lawsuit loans. Funds can be wired to your account or sent by other methods as well.
Qualifying a Lawsuit Cash Advance
In order to qualify for funding, you must:
- have been prescribed and used Risperdal before the age of 18
- have a diagnosis of gynecomastia
- have an attorney handling your case
- have a filed lawsuit
- be 18 or older at the time of the advance.
Since the settlement of the 2012 lawsuits about marketing, individual cases that resulted in gynecomastia have been settling on a one-at-a-time basis. Some early verdicts have been considerable. Austin Pledger received a $2.5 million verdict after developing gynecomastia when taking the drug for his autism (an off-label application of the drug). A more recent verdict was in the amount of $70 million, though the case ultimately settled for a confidential (likely lesser) amount.
There are currently more than 1000 lawsuits pending against J&J for the development of gynecomastia. A handful of cases have received individual settlements or verdicts, and it is hoped that this will spur the pharmaceutical giant to settle the rest of the cases en masse.

What are the Risks and Benefits of Case Advances?
The main risk involved with case cash advances is that they are costly. Lawsuits can take time. Frequently, funders charge compound interest – the amount you owe each month grows over time. Make sure you are getting a good rate and understand realistically how long it might take for your case to settle.
The obvious benefit to Risperdal lawsuit advances is that you can get money upfront on your case. Some plaintiffs use this to cover living expenses or medical bills. Furthermore, some plaintiffs will use the money to get elective breast reduction surgery. Often, such a surgery will actually increase the value of your case – please discuss this with your lawyer.
Unlike a traditional bank loan, you don’t have to make any monthly payments. Also, as this is a non-recourse transaction, if you were to lose your case, you would not have to pay back the money to the funder.
What is Risperdal?
Risperdal, whose generic name is Risperidone, is an anti-psychotic drug used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other afflictions. It has also been used to treat certain patients with OCD when other more conventional treatments have failed.
There has been a history of legal issues with the manufacturing and marketing of the drug. Early lawsuits focused on the company and its marketing department for trying to sell the drug to treat off-label conditions, such as dementia, autistic reactions, and anxiety. In 2012, Johnson & Johnson, the makers of Risperdal, agreed to pay $181 million to settle claims about this off-label marketing.
More recently, hundreds if not thousands of lawsuits have been filed against the manufacturer because prolonged use of the drug has resulted in the enlargement of breasts of the men who have taken it. Insufficient warning had been given about this condition when the drug was released and prescribed. The label was finally changed in 2006 to reflect the risk of such complications, but that did little to help the boys and men who had taken the drug, sometimes for years, before 2006.
One of the biggest issues with Risperdal is that it frequently results in a condition called gynecomastia (enlarged male breasts). This condition can be very severe with younger children and teens who have taken the drug. Because of the emotional distress associated with young men growing breasts, these cases can often fetch more than $1 million.
In addition to gynecomastia, Risperdal is also responsible for the following side effects:
- Weight gain
- Movement disorders: extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS), and tardive dyskinesia
- Heart problems and death: sudden cardiac death to an irregular heartbeat.
If you have any of the above side-affects, give us a call. We can let you know if you are likely to qualify after a very brief conversation.
